Machine Operator – 2nd Shift (Powders Department)This role operates and maintains production machinery in the powders department on 2nd shift. You will run equipment safely and efficiently, perform basic mechanical repairs, and support a clean, team-oriented manufacturing environment.ResponsibilitiesOperate production machines in the powders department according to established procedures and safety standards.Monitor machines during operation to ensure proper performance, product quality, and adherence to specifications.Perform inspections on equipment and products to identify defects, irregularities, or mechanical issues.Carry out minor maintenance and repair tasks on machines, especially when a maintenance technician is not immediately available.Troubleshoot mechanical issues and make adjustments to keep equipment running efficiently.Work closely with a small team of 2–4 colleagues to complete daily production goals.Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with facility standards.Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).Assist with equipment setup, changeovers, and shutdown procedures as needed.Document production information and report equipment problems or safety concerns promptly.Essential SkillsAt least 2 years of machine operation experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with mechanical equipment.Hands-on experience with machine operation, including setup, monitoring, and basic troubleshooting.Ability to inspect machines and products for quality and mechanical issues.Capability to fix machines when needed if a maintenance technician is not available.Comfort working in a powders or similar production environment.Ability to work effectively as part of a small team.Willingness and ability to work 2nd shift (Monday–Thursday, 3:00 pm – 1:30 am) and additional hours based on production volume.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience performing maintenance repairs and equipment adjustments in a production environment.Previous work in a clean manufacturing setting.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Reliability and consistency in attendance and punctuality.Openness to learning new processes and equipment as production needs evolve.Why Work Here?You will join a company with a strong local reputation and a history of long-lasting relationships with its workforce. This is a 2nd shift position, typically Monday through Thursday from 3:00 pm to 1:30 am, with the possibility of additional work based on production volume. The dress code requires jeans or similar work pant material; leggings and sweatpants are not permitted. You must wear all required PPE, including safety glasses, nitrile gloves, and cut-resistant gloves, and you are responsible for providing your own steel-toe boots. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and teamwork while working around production machinery in the powders department.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ames, IA.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
