Machine Learning Engineer II

• Build and scale recommendation systems powering personalization across HBO Max, Discovery+, and other WBD offerings
• Build machine learning systems and operations for personalization
• Collaborate with applied science engineers to improve search and personalization platform quality, stability, and resilience
• Drive observability, scalability, cost optimization, performance tuning, and other improvements to recommendation services and models
• Collaborate with platform, content, user data, and product partners as HBO Max expands into new markets
• Author, test, review, and optimize production-level code
• Execute version control and code integration best practices
• Foster experimentation and data-driven innovation focused on customers
• Contribute technical documentation for knowledge transfer and sharing
• Troubleshoot recommendation-system issues as front-line support

Requirements

• 2+ years of industry experience
• Deep practical knowledge of the modern machine learning lifecycle
• Practical knowledge of large-scale recommender systems, or large-scale ML ranking/retrieval/search systems
• Familiarity with A/B tests
• Experience building large-scale ML systems in production
• Strong programming skills in Python
• Java/Go a plus
• Solid understanding of data fundamentals, including SQL, pipelines, and feature stores
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
• Advanced degree (M.S.), or equivalent industry experience, in statistics, computer science, machine learning, or related fields
