Machine BuilderThis role focuses on building custom capital equipment from the ground up, including mechanical assembly, integration of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and installation of electrical components. You will work from complex, custom schematics and drawings to assemble, test, and troubleshoot machines to ensure they meet precise customer specifications and operate safely and reliably.ResponsibilitiesLay out, plan, and complete mechanical subassembly work on both large and small frame weldments for custom capital equipment.Mount commercial components such as bearings, pneumatic components, and drive systems with a high degree of accuracy to meet close tolerance requirements, including bearing surface fits and machine bed surface assemblies.Install and mechanically fasten electrical components to electrical panels and electrical enclosures according to drawings and schematics.Work from pneumatic and hydraulic schematics, as well as written and verbal instructions and your own technical knowledge, to determine the correct location and placement of commercial components, pneumatic and hydraulic assemblies, machined parts, and fabricated parts.Determine the optimal placement of assemblies and components to ensure proper function, serviceability, and compliance with design specifications.Perform troubleshooting on mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues during assembly and testing, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.Use hand tools, power tools, drills, conduit benders, pipe threading equipment, and measuring devices such as voltmeters, continuity testers, and test bench equipment to complete assembly and verification tasks.Drill and tap holes accurately to support the mounting and alignment of components and assemblies.Work safely with electrical systems in the 220–480 V range as part of machine build and testing activities.Test completed machines to verify proper operation, confirm correct connections, and ensure compliance with customer specifications and safety standards.Interpret and work from custom wiring diagrams and schematics, including complex configurations, to assemble and connect machine systems correctly.Handle custom-built machines and unique configurations, adapting to varying designs and requirements for each customer project.Lift and move components and assemblies, up to 30 pounds, as part of daily assembly tasks.Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures and company standards during machine building and testing.Essential SkillsHigh school diploma or GED.At least 4 years of machine building experience, preferably with custom or capital equipment.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and schematics.Proficiency using a variety of hand tools and power tools for mechanical assembly and installation.Hands-on experience working with pneumatic systems, including assembly and troubleshooting.Ability to work safely with electrical components and systems during mechanical fastening and testing.Capability to lift up to 30 pounds as part of routine assembly work.Ownership and use of basic personal tools suitable for machine building tasks.Strong attention to detail and ability to work to close mechanical tolerances.Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and apply technical judgment when working from schematics and layouts.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working with electrical systems from 110 V up to 480 V.Hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, including assembly and troubleshooting.Familiarity with measuring and test equipment such as volt/ohmmeters, ammeters, oscilloscopes, and electronic bench instruments.Experience with custom wiring diagrams and complex electrical or control schematics.Mechanical assembly of capital equipment, machine tools, or metal forming equipment.Comfort using conduit benders, pipe threading equipment, and related tools for routing and securing components.Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems.Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, family-style environment while managing individual responsibilities.Why Work Here?You will join a growing organization that invests in a modern, clean, and comfortable facility and fosters a close-knit, family-style atmosphere. Work involves handling components and assemblies up to 30 pounds and interacting with electrical systems in the 220–480 V range.
