Machine Builder – 3rd ShiftThis 3rd shift Machine Builder role focuses on supporting sanitation and maintenance activities in a refrigerated food and beverage production facility. You will disassemble machinery for sanitation, reassemble equipment to prepare for first-shift production, and perform preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs on various machines. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, comfort working in cold environments, and strict adherence to safety and lockout/tagout procedures.ResponsibilitiesBreak down production machinery at the end of the shift to prepare equipment for sanitation.Coordinate with sanitation teams to ensure machines are properly cleaned and ready for reassembly.Reassemble machinery after sanitation to ensure equipment is fully operational for first-shift production.Perform preventative maintenance on a variety of machines during downtime to improve reliability and reduce unplanned outages.Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues on industrial equipment and perform necessary repairs.Rebuild machine components, including ceiling heads, as needed during downtime.Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions to correctly build, assemble, and maintain machinery.Use hand tools and power tools to complete mechanical assembly, adjustments, and repairs safely and efficiently.Follow and enforce safety procedures, including proper lockout/tagout practices, during all maintenance and machine-building activities.Maintain an organized work area and care for personal tools and equipment.Work collaboratively with the maintenance department and production teams to support smooth operations.Wear required personal protective equipment when working in food production areas and adhere to all food safety and sanitation standards.Support continuous improvement of the preventative maintenance program and overall equipment performance.Work a consistent 3rd shift schedule and contribute to coverage across a 45–50 hour workweek.Essential Skills1–3 years of experience as a Machine Builder or Heavy Mechanical Assembler.Proven experience with mechanical assembly and machine building in an industrial environment.Ability to read and interpret blueprints and detailed work instructions.Proficiency using hand tools and power tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and related equipment.Experience performing preventative maintenance on industrial machines.Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.Understanding and practical application of lockout/tagout safety procedures.Comfort working in cold, refrigerated areas within a food and beverage production environment.Ability to fully suit up in appropriate PPE (lab coat, hair net, rubber gloves, beard net, etc.) when required.Reliability in attendance and consistent ability to report to work on the scheduled 3rd shift.Capability to work 45–50 hours per week on an overnight schedule.Additional Skills & QualificationsBackground in food and beverage manufacturing is beneficial, though industrial or automotive experience is also valuable.Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.Ownership of a basic mechanic tool set with metric tools (such as wrenches and screwdrivers).Experience as a maintenance technician in an industrial setting.Familiarity with machine maintenance programs and industrial equipment.Ability to work effectively within a maintenance team of multiple technicians.Why Work Here?Employees benefit from a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as short-term and long-term disability options. Team members must be comfortable working in low temperatures and fully suiting up in required personal protective equipment, including lab coat, hair net, rubber gloves, beard net, and other food-safe gear when entering production areas. The position is a 3rd shift opening, typically running from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., starting Sunday night, with work weeks averaging 45–50 hours. You will work as part of a maintenance department of approximately 14 people, using a variety of hand and power tools and your own basic mechanic tool set. The environment prioritizes safety, cleanliness, and adherence to strict preventative maintenance and food safety standards.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ferndale, MI.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
