Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and valid state licensure.
Preferred Qualifications: Licensed Veterinary Technician with experience in a surgery based hospital setting.
Knoweldge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:
- Licensed Veterinary Technician qualification with active license
- Interact and effectively communicate with a variety of personnel and display excellent interpersonal skills
- Apply common sense when carrying out verbal and written instructions
- Work in a fast paced environment
- Exhibit attention to detail
- Understand advanced medical terminology
Physical Demands
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.
- Work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery.
- Wear all protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles etc.
- Work for long periods of time with arms extended.
Responsibilities
- Perform physical exams, technician appointments, patient restraint, intravenous catheterization, and routine laboratory procedures. Acquire indirect blood pressure. Collection of blood, effusions, urine by expression, cystocentesis or catheterization. Administration and application of treatments, drugs, fluids, and medications by oral, parenteral and injectable routes. (40%)
- Set up and assist with paracentesis, echocardiogram, electrocardiogram (ECG), interventional radiology procedures, electrocardioversion, and surgical procedures. Review Holtor monitor tracings. (30%)
- Client communication in person and via phone or e-mail. Acquire diagnostic ECG tracings. Preparation and application of a Holtor monitor and telemetry. (20%)
- Euthanasia assistance and emergency resuscitation procedures. (10%)
