Licensed Vocational Nurse

The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients under supervision of the physician or mid-level provider. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients; staff; and physicians.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education

• Completion of Vocational Nursing Program or Associate's Degree in Nursing.

Minimum Work Experience

• One-year License Vocational Nurse experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications

• Current state vocational nurse license.
• Current CPR certificate.

Required Skills; Knowledge; and Abilities

• Knowledge of medical terminology; anatomy; physiology; and pathophysiology. Familiarity with health care systems; regulations; policies; and functions. Understanding of documentation standards.
• Knowledge of equipment; supplies; and materials needed for medical treatment. Understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.
• Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
• Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control; environmental safety and patient confidentiality.
• Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records.
• Knowledge of management and organizational theory to supervise the business practices including principles of employee development to train; delegate and mentor staff. Knowledge of medications and other pharmacological agents used in a hospital-based clinic setting.
• Knowledge in diseases and disease processes.
• Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques.
• Skill in appropriate use of universal precautions; safe workplace; and confidentiality methods.
• Skill in health information management by appropriately charting patient data.
• Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Ability to appropriately interact with patients; families; staff; and others.
• Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.
