POSITION: Lunch Aide for Food Services
3.5 hours per day; 10 months per year
Putnam Public Schools is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Lunch Aide to join our food services team for the school year! In this essential role, you will supervise students during lunch periods, creating a safe, positive, and structured environment. You will play a vital part in supporting student wellness, social growth, and cleanliness within our district.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Food Services Lunch Aide performs a variety of duties to support the daily operations of the school cafeteria, with a strong emphasis on student supervision, wellness, and cleanliness:
  • Lunchroom Supervision & Student Support:
    • Supervising students in the cafeteria during lunch periods to ensure a safe, orderly, and respectful environment.
      • Assisting and supporting students in developing positive social skills and peer interactions during meal times.
        • Encouraging and supporting student development in healthy habits, hygiene, and overall wellness (e.g., encouraging handwashing, healthy eating, and proper disposal of waste).
        • Cafeteria Cleanliness & Maintenance:
          • Assisting in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the student dining area.
          • Wiping down tables, cleaning up spills, and ensuring the cafeteria remains safe and hygienic between lunch waves.
        • General Food Service Support:
          • Collaborating with food service staff and school administration to ensure a smooth, efficient lunch period.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written directions accurately.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively as part of a team and maintain positive working relationships with staff, students, and the public.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and positive attitude toward children.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including standing and walking for extended periods, and occasional light lifting.
  • Prior experience working with school-aged children or in a school environment is desirable.

RATE OF PAY: $19.23 per hour
