Position: Hastings Middle School Math Teacher Long-Term Substitute
Location: Hastings Middle School
FTE / Term: 1.0 FTE Long-Term Substitute from Monday, August 24th through Friday, November 13th.
Position Purpose: Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Math Teacher (Long-Term Substitute) develops students' skills and competence in mathematics. The teacher develops students' problem-solving abilities and helps them understand the application of mathematics to practical problems.
General Duties / Essential Functions:
- Teach knowledge and skills in mathematics consistent with district curriculum and Minnesota standards.
- Promote critical and creative thinking and analysis across mathematics content.
- Create and maintain a classroom environment that is safe, supportive, and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction.
- Develop and implement lesson plans and instructional materials that translate standards into sequential learning experiences that challenge students and make efficient use of instructional time.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning; adjust instructional methods to meet individual student needs, including students with special needs.
- Provide individual and small-group instruction as needed.
- Organize and maintain accurate systems for grading, record-keeping, and reporting for student activities, achievement, and attendance per district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage family involvement and maintain clear, timely communication with students and parents/guardians.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere, ensuring student conduct aligns with school and district expectations.
- Coordinate and collaborate with professional staff particularly within grade level teams and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required / Licensure:
- State of Minnesota Teaching Certification to teach Middle School Math, grades 5-8 (58 math licensure required).
- Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education or a related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment. Master's degree in a related area preferred.
- Experience Successful prior teaching experience at the middle school level preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge base and experience in math (and science is a plus).
- Previous experience working with middle school students.
- Evidence of strong relationship skills with students, families, and colleagues.
- Strong commitment to effective pedagogical practices, including: Team planning and collaboration Highly engaging and authentic math (and science) instruction Differentiation for diverse learners Formative assessment practices Commitment to fostering students' academic, social, emotional, interpersonal, and ethical growth.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Ability to design and use assessments, analyze data, and formulate action plans to improve student outcomes.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws and district policies.
- Facility with district data systems and common instructional technologies (e.g., Schoology, Infinite Campus, IXL).
- Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate work effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with students, families, and colleagues.
- Capacity for self-evaluation and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

Compensation / Benefits: Per the Ed MN Teachers Master Agreement. This position does not qualify for benefits.
