Job Summary:
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a Medical Surgical setting provides nursing care under the direction of registered nurses and physicians. This role involves medication administration, patient assessments, and therapeutic procedures for patients in an acute care or ambulatory care environment. The LVN/LPN collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure quality patient care and adheres to regulatory standards, including pharmacology coursework and BLS certification. A minimum of two years of recent full-time clinical experience is preferred.
Responsibilities:
  • Administer medications and perform treatments as directed, following established protocols and pharmacology standards.
  • Conduct patient assessments and monitor patient conditions in the medical surgical unit.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Document nursing care and patient responses accurately in the electronic medical record system.
  • Provide patient education and support to promote recovery and well-being.
  • Float within the facility as required to meet patient care needs while remaining within scope of practice.
  • Comply with hospital policies, including infection control and safety protocols.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the State of Illinois.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Successful completion of medication administration (Pharmacology) coursework as required by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
  • Minimum of two years full-time paid clinical experience in an acute care or ambulatory care setting preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience in medical surgical nursing or related acute care specialties.
  • Familiarity with Cerner electronic charting system.
  • Experience working in correctional or high-acuity hospital environments.
Special Considerations:
  • No call requirements.
  • Floating to other units within the facility is mandatory as needed.
  • No return to office (RTO) on weekends, holidays, or the day before/after holidays.
  • Maximum of 5 RTO days per month with no more than 2 consecutive days.
  • Scrub color designated as navy blue.
  • Parking is free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Scheduling:
  • Full-time schedule with guaranteed 40 hours per week.
  • Weekend work required every other weekend (2 weekends per month).
  • Shift assignments determined by facility needs and may include floating within scope of practice.
