The Lower School Dean works under the direct supervision of the Headmaster. He/she is responsible for assisting the Headmaster in the day-to-day operations of Veritas Academy in accordance with the mission. Specific responsibilities of this position are as follows:

Oversight of Grammar School

  1. Manage day-to-day operations of the Grammar school.
  2. Assist the Headmaster in recruiting, hiring, evaluating faculty for grades PK-6.
  3. Lead and coordinate with the teachers and Headmaster in the development and implementation of classroom curriculum for grades PK-6.
  4. Supervise the faculty by conducting regular and frequent classroom observations, completing annual teacher evaluations, providing ongoing faculty training, reviewing lesson plans and syllabi, and mentoring new teachers.
  5. Develop class schedules, order curriculum, review syllabi and lesson plans, periodically review gradebooks, and publish report cards.
  6. Lead morning Grammar school assembly.
  7. Enforce applicable school policy, meet with students in cases of discipline, and provide clear and effective communication to parents.
  8. Explain the tenets of Classical Christian Education to parents and the broader community through regular parental education.

General Administration

  1. Implement established school policies and directives from the Headmaster and Board.
  2. Assist the Headmaster to revise, provide recommendations, and update school policies (i.e., School Policy Manual, Parent-Student Handbook, and Staff Handbook).
  3. Provide recommendations to the Headmaster in developing the annual budget based on school needs.
  4. Communicate effectively with parents in written and spoken form.

Operations and Facilities

  1. Secure and maintain facilities and equipment necessary for all school activities.
  2. Assist the teachers and Headmaster in setting up rooms, equipment, and furniture as needed for school programs and activities.
  3. Maintain healthy and safe facility conditions for faculty, staff, and students.
  4. Assist the Headmaster with School Safety Protocols, Drills, and Inspections.
  5. Maintain amicable relations with the Independent Presbyterian Church per the property lease agreement.
