Collegiate School seeks reliable, engaging and professional educators to serve as Lower School Classroom Support Substitutes on an as-needed independent contractor basis. This role provides classroom coverage and student supervision during faculty absences while helping to maintain a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment for students in Kindergarten through Grade 4.
Working under the direction of the Lower School administration and classroom teachers, Classroom Support Substitutes reinforce classroom routines, support students with activities prepared by the classroom teacher and provide general supervision throughout the school day. This position is intended to provide continuity for students and operational support for the School and does not serve as the teacher of record.
Assignments are offered on an as-needed basis and vary depending on the School's operational needs. There is no guarantee of minimum hours or ongoing assignments.
Primary Responsibilities
Classroom Coverage & Student Support
- Provide classroom coverage during faculty absences
- Support students with classroom routines and activities prepared by the classroom teacher
- Reinforce classroom expectations and established daily routines
- Maintain a positive, safe and engaging classroom environment
- Encourage respectful behavior and positive interactions among students
- Supervise students during instructional periods, transitions, lunch, recess and dismissal as assigned
- Promote student safety and well-being throughout the school day
- Notify the Lower School administration of any student concerns or incidents requiring attention
- Follow guidance provided by the classroom teacher and Lower School administration
- Communicate professionally with faculty and staff regarding classroom needs
- Provide coverage for additional supervisory responsibilities as assigned
- Perform other duties related to the substitute assignment as requested
- Bachelor's degree required
- Experience working with elementary-aged children in a school or educational setting preferred
- Strong interpersonal, communication and classroom management skills
- Ability to adapt quickly to different classroom environments and schedules
- Professional, dependable and flexible with a positive attitude
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Successful completion of all required background checks
