About the Opportunity
Winston Staffing has been engaged by an established, globally recognized designer and distributor of premium consumer lifestyle products to recruit a talented International Logistics Specialist for their Long Island headquarters.
Operating at the intersection of international trade, freight operations, and fulfillment, this role offers end-to-end visibility and hands-on ownership of transpacific inbound shipping. You will manage ocean freight movement from manufacturing partners in Asia, maintain customs and tariff compliance, oversee domestic port drayage, and direct receiving workflows across two major third-party logistics (3PL) distribution centers.
If you thrive in dynamic global logistics, enjoy tracking landed costs, and want a visible seat where your carrier negotiations and scheduling directly impact the bottom line, this is your next career move.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Ocean Freight Management: Coordinate directly with overseas production teams in Asia to confirm FOB bookings; track vessel transit milestones (ETD/ETA), monitor port congestion, and resolve shipping exceptions.
- Customs Clearance & Landed Cost Controls: Audit import shipping documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, Bills of Lading, CBP 7501s); maintain accurate HTS tariff codes, duty rates, and landed cost allocations in the ERP.
- Drayage & Demurrage Mitigation: Schedule and dispatch domestic port drayage to move containers efficiently from port terminals to warehouse hubs, eliminating demurrage, detention, and per-diem fees.
- 3PL Warehouse Intake & Receiving: Supervise inbound inventory intake across two primary 3PL fulfillment facilities (West Coast US and Canada); reconcile receiving logs and investigate overage, shortage, or damage (OS&D) discrepancies.
- Freight Invoice Auditing & Rate Review: Reconcile ocean carrier and drayage invoices against contracted rate sheets; analyze lane performance and support rate negotiations to reduce enterprise shipping spend.
- Operational Reporting & Modeling: Utilize advanced Excel functions (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables) to track container velocity, lead times, and freight variances.
Candidate Qualifications
- Experience: 4+ years of dedicated professional experience in international logistics, import/export operations, or maritime freight forwarding.
- Ocean Freight Mastery: Direct, hands-on experience managing containerized ocean freight originating from Asia/APAC is required.
- Trade & Tariff Acumen: Strong working knowledge of customs entry processes, commercial documentation, HTS classifications, duty rates, and landed cost formulas.
- Fulfillment Operations: Proven track record coordinating with port drayage carriers and external 3PL warehouse partners.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency (must be adept at building pivot tables, lookups, and multi-tab operational trackers).
- Systems Familiarity: Prior experience utilizing enterprise ERP platforms; hands-on familiarity with AS400 / IBM iSeries is a significant advantage.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations, International Business, or equivalent practical industry experience.
- Schedule & Commute: Able to reliably commute to Hauppauge, NY for the 3-day on-site hybrid schedule, with availability for quarterly travel (~1x per quarter) to West Coast distribution hubs.
