Job TitleLocksmithJob DescriptionThe working hours for this position are Monday-Friday 7:30am-3:30pm. This classification is an Essential Position. The employee in this position is required to be present at work even when the University closes or experiences a late start and/or early closure. This position is responsible for performing skilled work in the installation, repair, replacement, and maintaining mechanical, pneumatic, and electronically controlled locks and devices.
The assigned work involves installing new locking mechanisms per applicable codes and specifications; troubleshooting key and locking device problems; performing repairs, adjustments, and parts replacement; disassembling, resetting or re-pinning, and reassembling locks; fabricating master and replacement keys; and maintaining corresponding inventories and records. Work may involve accessing a variety of software platforms to identify issues with electronically controlled locks to address the mechanical and electronic issues with these devices. If employee does not possess CIL (Certified Institutional Locksmith) certification, one must acquire certification during probationary period.Minimum Qualifications3 years of experience in the installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of locks and peripherals in a professional capacity or an equivalent combination of experience and training.Possession of an active motor vehicle license.3 years of experience in BEST interchangeable core systems and master key hierarchy development.Knowledge of the methods, materials, and practices of the Locksmithing trade.Preferred QualificationsCIL (Certified Institutional Locksmith) certification5 years experience in the installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of locks and peripherals or an equivalent combination of experience and training.2 years work experience with card access/electronic lock systems1 year experience in keying system design1 year prior work experience in a Facilities, construction, or education environmentPrior work experience utilizing Schlage and/or Best Key SystemsPrior work experience utilizing SMS/Vanderbilt Schlage softwarePrior work experience utilizing CMMS and/or WebTMAContinuing education and/or professional development within the Locksmith and/or electronica access controls environment with the last 5 yearsSupplemental InformationApplications & resumes will be accepted until the position is filled.
