Responsibilities
- Represent businesses and individuals in complex commercial litigation matters in Illinois state and federal courts
- Lead cases through all phases of litigation, including case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, trial, and appeal
- Develop and execute litigation strategies aligned with clients' business objectives
- Draft and oversee substantive litigation work product, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery
- Take and defend depositions, argue motions, and serve as lead counsel in hearings and proceedings
- Counsel clients on litigation risk, strategy, and dispute resolution
- Mentor and develop junior attorneys
- Collaborate across practice groups to provide comprehensive legal solutions
- Contribute to business development efforts and continued growth of the litigation practice
Qualifications
- 10+ years of complex commercial litigation experience (strong candidates with slightly less experience may be considered)
- Significant experience litigating in Illinois state and federal courts
- Portable book of business preferred in the $300K-$500K+ range (firm is open to attorneys with a modest book who are motivated to continue growing their practice)
- Strong experience managing sophisticated litigation matters from inception through resolution
- Trial, arbitration, evidentiary hearing, or other substantive courtroom experience
- Excellent legal writing, advocacy, analytical, and client counseling skills
- Demonstrated success building and maintaining client relationships
- Illinois Bar admission required
- Insurance-related commercial litigation experience is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- Base compensation: $300,000-$500,000+, depending on experience, portable business, and historical collections
