Litigation ParalegalWe are seeking a dynamic and team-focused litigation paralegal for our Charlotte/Triangle office. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced litigation paralegal to work collaboratively with a talented group of attorneys and paralegals in a sophisticated and active litigation department with a focus on excellence and client-service.Overall objective of the position:Facilitate and coordinate the litigation process from initiation of the action through the discovery process, trial and appealCoordinate and communicate with court personnel while maintaining a positive and productive firm relationship with sameElectronically file pleadings with the North Carolina Business Court, Federal District Courts, administrative tribunals, and Appellate Courts (including maintaining knowledge of applicable court rules and assigned judges' current preferred e-filing policies and practices)Oversee the filing of state court pleadings throughout North Carolina (including maintaining knowledge of applicable local rules)Assist with maintaining electronic files and document management (Relativity, CaseMap/TextMap/TimeMap, and docketing software)Cite-check, quote-check, and check record citations in briefs. Prepare appendices and addendum to same.
Prepare and proofread Tables of Contents and Tables of Authorities. Ensure briefs, appendices and other filings are formatted in compliance with applicable rulesPrepare court forms (civil action cover sheets, summons, subpoenas, etc.) and routine filings (notices of hearing, motions for extension of time, affidavits of service, motions for pro hac vice admission, etc.)Draft shell discovery requests and responses. Assist with document productions (and occasionally with preparation of privilege logs)Special projects including locating witnesses, researching corporate registration (including current address and registered agent), and process for issuing foreign subpoenas in other statesTrial and hearing preparation (including notebooks, exhibits, Trial Director, and PowerPoint presentations)Post-judgment collection workAppellate work (Notice of Appeal, Record on Appeal, Briefs)Knowledge of Bankruptcy Rules and electronic filing in U.S.
Bankruptcy CourtsQualification and experience:Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and/or paralegal certificate from an ABA accredited program requiredMinimum of 2 years of litigation paralegal experience requiredExperience with bankruptcy preferredAbility to effectively communicate verbally and in writingAbility to work well with a wide range of professionals including clients, attorneys, professional staff, vendors, and court personnelAdvanced knowledge of Rules of Civil Procedure for state and federal courts of North Carolina, including North Carolina Business Court; significant experience with electronic filing policies and procedures and ability to research and analyze sameProficiency with CaseMap/TextMap/TimeMap, Microsoft suite of programs, Relativity, Westlaw, and LexisAbility to prioritize and manage multiple assignments in a deadline driven environmentAbility to work independently and maintain be self-motivatedPossess sufficient confidence to notify attorneys of potential omissions and/or to make recommendations even when not specifically askedStrong attention to detailAbility to strategize, plan and offer solutionsOwnership of work productAbility to work as part of a cohesive paralegal team
