Litigation Attorney

My client, a well respected West Des Moines based firm, is seeking a Litigation Attorney to join their team.

Open to candidates with experience in any litigation practice area handled by the firm, including business and commercial litigation, construction, employment, family law, personal injury, insurance defense and coverage, municipal matters, real estate disputes, intellectual property, and banking, bankruptcy, and creditors’ rights.

This position offers the opportunity to represent individuals, businesses, and governmental entities while collaborating with attorneys across the firm’s practice groups. The attorney’s caseload and responsibilities will reflect their experience, interests, and the firm’s client needs.

Responsibilities

• Handle litigation matters from initial evaluation through discovery, motion practice, settlement, and trial.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and other legal documents.
• Conduct legal research and develop practical case strategies.
• Take and defend depositions and prepare witnesses for testimony.
• Represent clients in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
• Communicate with clients about case developments, options, and potential outcomes.
• Collaborate with attorneys and staff while managing deadlines and competing priorities.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Active Iowa bar admission, or eligibility to obtain admission.
• Litigation experience in one or more of the firm’s practice areas.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage matters independently while working effectively with a team.
• Sound judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to responsive client service.
• Deposition, courtroom, and trial experience is a plus.

Salary and Compensation:

Base salary ranges from $140,000 – $250,000 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidates.
