Seven years in, you can run a file in your sleep. So why are you still asking permission to?
I'm recruiting for a national civil defense firm that's building out its Baltimore practice. They want someone who takes a case from the complaint to the verdict and doesn't need a partner hovering to do it.
What lands on your desk
- General liability, personal injury, product liability and professional liability. Four different kinds of problem in one caseload.
- Clients from Fortune 100 companies down to small business owners and individuals. Some weeks you'll speak to all three.
- Pleadings, motions, briefs, depositions and hearings. Trial when the case calls for one.
- Case strategy. At seven years, that's what they're hiring you for.
The firm
- Offices in multiple states plus DC. Their lawyers have appeared in the courts of over 35 states and territories.
- They describe their growth as slow and sustainable. New seats open when the work is there, which is why this one exists.
- Hybrid, with time at home and in the office. Ask me how the week usually splits.
The money
- $100,000 to $150,000. They're open to two levels: an experienced defense attorney toward the lower end, a more trial heavy candidate toward the top.
- 401(k) with profit sharing, medical, dental and vision, life and AD&D, short and long term disability, medical and dependent care FSAs, holiday pay and flexible schedules.
You'll need
- A JD and an active Maryland license.
- 7 or more years of civil litigation defense, with insurance defense clients in the mix.
- DC bar, or UBE scores you can transfer, is a bonus. One bar is fine. xhqgsiq
