Litigation Counsel – Global Energy MajorHouston, Texas | In-house | Full-timeNovus Executives is working with one of the world’s largest energy businesses on the appointment of a Litigation Counsel to join its in-house team north of Houston. This is a hands-on role for a litigator who wants to own cases from start to finish, rather than simply oversee them.What the job involvesYou will run your own caseload of disputes, mostly environmental and commercial claims, with the autonomy to set strategy and see matters through to resolution. Day to day, that means:Leading cases yourself, from early assessment and witness work through to depositions, court hearings, trial and appealSteering external law firms on both approach and cost, and holding them to budgetDrafting and refining court filings and key case papersActing as a risk adviser to the business on incidents, contractual indemnities and insurance coverage questionsKeeping senior lawyers and operational leaders updated on where each case stands and what comes nextWorking alongside the company’s deal and commercial lawyers, its legal operations team and paralegals, particularly on document disclosureWhat they’re looking forA US-licensed litigator (Texas preferred) with three or more years’ experience focused almost entirely on civil disputesReal courtroom exposure, including trial work, and experience carrying weighty, complex mattersBackground in private practice, in-house or with a government agencyA confident grasp of procedural and evidential rulesClear judgment, strong writing and the ability to explain legal risk in business termsComfort working on your own initiative within a large, international legal functionA strong academic record and flexibility to travel within the US occasionallyThe packageCompetitive base salary and bonus, a strong benefits programme and long-term career progression within a highly regarded legal department.For a confidential conversation, contact Cameron Cosh at
