Position Summary
The Litigation Attorney will primarily focus on medical malpractice defense matters while also gaining exposure to professional liability, employment, and commercial litigation. This position offers increasing responsibility from day one, with the opportunity to independently manage depositions, court appearances, client relationships, and case strategy as your experience grows.
The ideal candidate is motivated, collaborative, intellectually curious, and eager to learn from seasoned litigators who are invested in developing the next generation of trial attorneys.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage medical malpractice defense cases from initial discovery through resolution
- Assist with professional liability, employment, and commercial litigation matters as needed
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, responses, and other litigation documents
- Conduct legal research and prepare case strategy recommendations
- Take and defend depositions
- Appear in court for hearings and other proceedings
- Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and witnesses
- Assist with trial preparation, mediation, and settlement negotiations
- Progress toward independently managing a litigation caseload with continued mentorship and support
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in South Carolina
- 2-6 years of post-bar civil litigation experience
- Demonstrated experience handling litigation matters, including depositions and court appearances
- Strong legal writing, analytical, and research skills
- Writing sample required
- Ability to work full-time in the firm's Greenville, South Carolina office
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in insurance defense or professional liability litigation
- Experience managing litigation files with increasing independence
- Strong organizational and client communication skills
- Desire to build a long-term litigation career in a collaborative environment
