The successful candidate will represent governmental entities and law enforcement officials in federal and state courts, focusing on civil rights claims. This role involves substantive litigation work, including depositions and motion practice.

Duties

• Represent police and corrections officers in civil rights and tort liability cases.
• Conduct legal research and develop case strategies.
• Draft pleadings and motions; argue substantive motions.
• Propound and answer written discovery; take and defend depositions.
• Prepare and assist in trial proceedings.
• Collaborate with senior attorneys and clients on litigation strategies.
• Counsel clients on legal issues related to potential claims.
• Maintain accurate case records and documentation.
• Engage in settlement negotiations when appropriate.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Valid Illinois law license in good standing.
• 3+ years of litigation experience, focusing on civil rights law.
• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Excellent oral communication and public speaking skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective multitasking and time management skills.
• Willingness to travel within Illinois as required.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
