Lifeguard Position
We are currently accepting applications for year-round positions. No previous guarding experience is needed for this position, just a love of the water. We provide all necessary training. The City of Shoreview employs 45 - 75 lifeguards, depending on the season, in our beautiful indoor pool and water park. The Shoreview Waterpark features a three-story waterslide, zero depth beach, adventure walk, water play feature, boat slide, giant floatable toys, adult deck/whirlpool, and much more in a fun, tropical environment. Uniforms (tank top, shorts and whistle) are provided. Current employees can renew their lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications at no charge through Shoreview classes.
Duties Include
- Arrive on time for shift
- Recognize emergencies and respond effectively
- Enforce all facility policies, rules and regulations
- Inspect locker rooms throughout the shift for cleanliness
- Regularly participate in in-service training sessions
- Maintain timesheet with accurate number of hours worked
- Find substitute to work shift if a planned absence is necessary
- Maintain fitness level as required
- Other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Management staff
Qualifications
No experience required. FREE training is provided through Ellis & Associates.
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Must be able to swim 50 yards; using the front crawl and/or breaststroke technique

Hours: Monday - Friday: 5 am – 8:30 pm Saturdays: 6 am – 7 pm Sundays: 6 am – 8 pm
$20/hour for Monday - Friday shifts worked during the school year (Sept 19, 2026-June 11, 2027) between the hours of 5 am - 4 pm Up to $20/hour for weekend shifts and special events In addition, we have pool rentals and special events that need staffing. Staff must attend 3 hours of in-service training each month and other meetings as posted. Note: Your training, materials and Lifeguard Certification are FREE - a $225 value! Lifeguard Certification training is delivered through a combination of online and in-person training. Employees are compensated at a rate of $11.50 per hour for lifeguard certification training. AND all Lifeguards receive a FREE Community Center Membership!
Physical demands and work environment:
- Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity.
- Work in warm and humid indoor pool environments with water temperatures 86 - 90 degrees.
- Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Ability to be exposed to noise and chemicals.
- Slippery surfaces walking on the pool deck.
- Ability to keep composure with the public and co-workers in everyday, stressful and emergency situations.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
