Lifeguard

Job Summary The lifeguard is responsible for guarding the aquatic facility and/or aquatic activities to secure the safety of pool patrons and program participants. The lifeguard is also responsible for the overall enforcement of safety protocols of the aquatics department, checking in guests, assisting in program set up/takedown, opening and closing safety checks, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Aquatics or his/her designee.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continually provide surveillance of patrons and athletes in or around the pool
  • Maintain rescue-ready stance, provide first aid and emergency care as needed
  • Proactively enforce aquatic rules and procedures
  • Ensure all pool and rescue equipment is in safe working condition
  • Maintain proficiency in all lifeguarding rescue skills
  • Attend mandatory in-service meetings and trainings
  • Check-in guests, maintain accurate cash management and pool count records
  • Periodically provide roaming safety checks of the locker rooms and pool area
  • Complete accident or incident reports accurately as required
  • Report work-related concerns to Aquatics Supervisor or the Director of Aquatics
  • Assist in program set-up/take down
  • Any other duties assigned by the Director of Aquatics or his/her designee

Education and Experience

  • Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) or other nationally recognized lifesaving certification
  • Good communication skills with the ability to interact with people of all backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance and wear proper attire while working
  • Reliable, punctual, and with good means of transportation
