Job Description
Performs lifesaving skills, provides instructional swimming lessons to children and adults, performs routine maintenance on pool and pool facilities. Monitors all activities within the pool facility. Maintains flexible schedule for rotation to various pool sites.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed inside and/or outside an office. Work may be exposed to a variety of weather conditions and outdoor elements such as: excessive dampness, chill, heat, humidity, intermittent noise, and inclement cold weather. Work may be exposed to a variety of environmental conditions such as: contagious infectious disease, irritating chemicals, life-threatening situations, constant noise, and slippery/uneven walking surfaces. Capable of working closely with others or alone, working long or irregular working hours, working shift work and/or weekends, working with protective devices, working with hands in water, and traveling by car 100% of the time. Ability to operate a motor vehicle, office equipment, and mechanical equipment; Work requires light to heavy carrying and lifting (under 15 pounds up to 45 pounds and over), straight pulling, pulling hand over hand, simple grasping, dual simultaneous grasping, repeated bending, sitting, standing, pushing, crouching, twisting, kneeling, stooping, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, walking, and reaching above shoulders. Ability to see, write, read, count, identify shade of colors, perceive depth, and hearing is needed to perform the essential functions of this job.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Physically able to perform lifesaving skills, pool maintenance, recordkeeping, sanitation, and instruction.
  • Must be able to perform swimming pool duties as required, such as:
    1. Maintaining swimming pool facilities
    2. Sanitation daily
    3. Vacuuming
    4. Filtration
    5. Maintaining pool grounds indoor/outdoors
    6. Other duties specified by the Aquatic Supervisor
  • Must be able to communicate and work well with others.
  • Must be responsible, reliable, and prompt.
  • Must be able to participate and attend workshops.
  • Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and the general public.
  • Assists in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts.
  • Must follow all rules of telephone courtesy in all telephone communications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Valid Licenses and Certifications
Lifeguard Certificate is required*
First Aid Certificate is required *
CPR for Pro Certificate is required*

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
