Position Description:
Function within the scope of the vocational nursing license to assist physician, advanced practice provider and/or RN with patient care. Perform technical assessment, administer medications, and assist with minor procedures/treatment. Additionally, may be assigned to manage clinic programs.

Additionally, this position is not eligible for remote or hybrid opportunities. All work is required to be performed onsite at TTEP.

Major/Essential Functions:

Perform physical assessment, which may include vital signs, weight, height, and current history and makes observations relevant to patient conditions.

Documents or reviews all pertinent data, including allergies, current medications, and health history.

Perform various screening tests in preparation for patient's physical examination as required.

Administer medications, give injections, and perform treatments (e.g., wound change, etc.) which are within the vocational nurse scope of practice.

Observe and document patient reactions to medications and treatments, and initiate emergency treatment as needed.

Assist in examinations of patients, diagnostic procedures, and minor procedures/treatments.
-
Provide patient education regarding diagnosis, medication, and treatment under direct or indirect supervision of the physician, or as directed by clinic protocol.

Initiate basic cardiac life support and assist in emergency situations as needed.

Assure timely reporting of lab work to physician/advanced practice provider and appropriate transfer of medical records as directed by physician/advanced practice provider or as requested by patients.

Maintain appropriate inventory of medical equipment and patient education materials in patient examination areas.

Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care provided to selected patient populations and their families.

May perform specific nursing care as it relates to specialty of the practice.

Participate in clinical team care reviews to improve patient care processes and outcomes.

Participate in community outreach activities (such as health fairs, community collaborations or outreach clinics) as assigned.

May be required to travel between Texas Tech Health El Paso clinical locations and provide cross-coverage across medical specialties to meet operational needs

Remain current with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position.

Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.).

Required Qualifications:

Must be a graduate of an accredited school of vocational nursing.

Current, valid license to practice vocational nursing in the State of Texas; or valid Compact LVN license.

Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
