Description:
The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for performing basic nursing duties.
These duties include executing physician orders and assisting the physician in examinations and treatments.
The nurse will perform technical and clinical procedures within the scope of their license.
They will apply appropriate nursing skills in the care and treatment of patients.
The nurse will attend to patients during sick calls and prepare the examination room and equipment.
They will dispense medication and document as required by applicable policies and procedures.
The nurse will control medication, syringes, and other medical supplies or equipment.
They will ensure that all equipment and work areas are kept clean and utilize appropriate sanitation methods.
Documentation and reporting of activities must be in accordance with established policies and procedures.
The nurse will assist in evaluating the provision of medical services to prevent unnecessary duplication.
Maintaining the security and confidentiality of medical records is imperative.
The nurse will observe and record patient behavior.
They will inspect the medical unit for contraband items and manage supplies accordingly.
Preparing and maintaining various operational records, reports, and logs is required.
The nurse must read and interpret medical and technical procedures and governmental regulations.
In cases of litigation, the nurse may respond to lawsuits and attend court hearings as necessary.
Effective communication with administration, staff, patients, and visitors is crucial.
The nurse will help evaluate safety requirements necessary for a safe working environment.
Facilitating accreditation of the medical program may be part of their responsibilities.
Preparing and disseminating safety and incident reports, along with taking action during emergencies, is also expected.
The nurse may escort patients or coordinate their movement for medical treatment.
They will initiate and complete investigations and inquiries accurately when directed.
Working in confined areas and checking for security will be part of the job.
Nurses should be aware that verbal abuse may occur in this environment.
