Overview

Licensed Practical Nurse I (LPN I) positions in the Metro Region are open on a continuous posting basis for full-time and part-time shifts serving group homes throughout DDS. This is an entry-level nursing opportunity for individuals interested in serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in community residential settings.

The LPN I will deliver care as part of a team, building relationships with individuals, families, provider agencies, and other parties to improve health and quality of living for those supported by the agency.

Please Note: Based on assignment, candidates may be eligible for various pay differentials.

Cities & Towns: Ashland, Canton, Charlestown, Dedham, Dorchester, Foxboro, Framingham, Hyde Park, Medfield, Needham, Norfolk, Roslindale, Roxbury/Mission Hill, South Boston, Somerville, Walpole, Waltham, Wellesley, Westboro, Wrentham

Duties and Responsibilities

These duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive:
  • Provide nursing care and oversight by implementing individuals' health care plans, chart vital signs, apply dressings, and administer medications as prescribed
  • Assist with daily maintenance and personal care; maintain individual records and files
  • Initiate referrals for medical services, scheduling, hospital safeguarding, advocacy, and follow-up care
  • Communicate health issues to staff and update families/guardians about hospitalizations and rehabilitation support
  • Inform staff of medical concerns related to activity level that may affect progress
  • Order medications and maintain medical supplies and equipment
  • Initiate emergency procedures (basic first aid/CPR) and provide catheterizations as needed
  • Provide training for direct support staff on equipment and treatments
  • Transport individuals to appointments and community activities as needed

Position Requirements

  • Current, active LPN license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Agency Requirements

  • Current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to develop respectful, caring, ethical relationships with individuals with disabilities
  • Capacity to assist/lift individuals with limited mobility
  • Knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, and techniques
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and handle confidential information
  • Familiarity with safety practices and medical terminology
  • Ability to transcribe, read, and comprehend English

Other Notes

  • Some LPN positions may require 24/7 nursing coverage; mandatory overtime may be required as circumstances dictate
  • This position is designated as an "EMERGENCY" position in the DDS Emergency Plan; you may be required to report to work during state emergencies
  • All employees are paid bi-weekly and must have direct deposit
