Job Title: Licensed Optometrist
Location: Kayenta Health Center – Kayenta Service Unit, Navajo Area Indian Health Service
Hours: Mon–Fri, excluding Federal Holidays (Tour of duty set by Supervisor; 40 hrs/week)
Key Duties:
- Provide comprehensive eye care including diagnosis and management of visual and ocular pathologies.
- Prescribe corrective lenses, vision training, and therapeutic medications (topical and oral).
- Deliver emergency eye care for trauma and acute conditions.
- Utilize lab and radiology services to evaluate ophthalmologic conditions.
- Coordinate eye care with other physicians when systemic disease is present.
- Refer and coordinate care for patients requiring services outside the Service Unit.
- Consult with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and medical staff for complex cases.
- Supervise Eye Clinic personnel and precept optometry students as needed.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) from an accredited institution.
- Current, unrestricted optometry license in any U.S. state (diagnostic & therapeutic privileges required).
- Active DEA license.
- Minimum 1 year recent optometry experience.
- BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
- Proficient in EHR/EMR and basic computer skills.
