Licensed Practical Nurse

Location: School Building

Reports To: Special Education Administrator / Building Administrator

Employment Type: Full Time

Schedule: School-Year Calendar

ASchool LPN Nurse provides basic healthcare services to students during the school day, supports student wellness, and works under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or school administrator.

Key Responsibilities

Student Care

• Provide first aid and basic medical care for injuries and illnesses
• Administer medications as prescribed
• Monitor students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures)
• Assist students with special healthcare needs including toileting and feeding

Health Monitoring

• Track immunization records and ensure compliance
• Conduct health screenings
• Observe and report changes in student health

Care Coordination

• Work with teachers, parents, and healthcare providers
• Assist in developing and implementing 504 Plans
• Support students with IEPs (Individualized Education Programs)

Emergency Response

• Respond to medical emergencies
• Perform CPR and basic life support when needed

Documentation

• Maintain accurate medical records and ensured compliance with regulations
• Document treatments, medications, and incidents

Requirements

• Active LPN license (Illinois LPN license)
• CPR and First Aid certification
• Experience in pediatrics or school health (preferred)
• Knowledge of common childhood conditions and medications

Work Environment

• Typically follows the school calendar
• Works in elementary schools
• May travel between schools if needed
