Commercial Construction | Contract Law Focus
Our client, a privately held, high-growth commercial construction company, is seeking a Senior In-House Counsel / General Counsel to serve as the company’s head of legal .
This role will be the senior legal authority across the business , working closely with the CEO and executive leadership team. The focus is highly practical and operational — supporting construction contracts, managing risk, and helping the business move faster and smarter.
This is a hands-on role , not a purely academic or litigation-heavy position.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Owning all legal matters across the company as the head of legal
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial construction contracts (prime contracts, subcontracts, supplier agreements, MSAs, change orders)
- Partnering with Operations, Pre-Construction, and Project Management during bids, pre-award reviews, and major projects
- Advising leadership on contractual risk, claims, and dispute avoidance
- Helping build and standardize contract language, templates, and processes
- Managing outside counsel as needed, with a focus on reducing reliance over time
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years of legal experience , with meaningful depth in commercial construction law
- Background as: In-house counsel at a construction, engineering, or specialty trade company OR A construction-focused attorney at a reputable law firm
- Strong working knowledge of: AIA / ConsensusDocs / custom owner contracts & Indemnification, liquidated damages, delay claims, pay-if-paid, insurance & bonding
- Comfortable stepping into a newly created role and building the function
- Practical, business-minded, and solutions-oriented
