Legal AssistantThe legal assistant will support attorneys or Department of Justice (DOJ) accredited representatives to enable (1) provision of affirmative immigration relief services; (2) assist in providing representation of clients in removal proceedings; (3) services and outreach at assigned community college campuses and/or community events as needed; and (4) work closely with other UFW Foundation programs to drive an organizing culture which influences systemic change. Legal Assistants report to lead staff attorney or senior accredited representative.The responsibilities of the incumbent include, but are not limited to opening, routing, and responding to correspondence, answering the telephone and routing/taking messages, as well as providing high-level general clerical support to the lead manager and assigned supervisor, and providing legal case support. Secondary duties will include various special projects related to the events and activities in which the organization or lead manager is involved.The ideal candidate for this position must have a high level of professionalism and organization. The candidate must demonstrate competency in the following areas:Ability to develop, implement and track day-to-day activities.Experience working in immigrant communities, communities of color, and low-income and working-class communities.Bilingual (English and Spanish or English and indigenous language or English and other language as needed to meet communities' needs).Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.Self-motivated and able to work both independently and in conjunction with team members.Collaboration. Ability to write legal briefs, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Requires ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
