General Summary
The Water Transfer Operator is responsible for sustaining safe, continuous and controlled water transfer operations through active system monitoring, pump operations, inspections, maintenance and operational reporting. This position supports daily water transfer activities in a remote field location south of Pecos, Texas, including the management of pump systems, monitoring pond levels and fill rates, debris removal, fuel management, routine maintenance and compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements. The schedule for this position could vary but expected 6 on 1 off.
The role supports continuous water transfer operations and requires effective field communication, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to operational excellence and safety.
Work is performed primarily at a remote water transfer facility. The position requires daily field operations in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, wind, dust and other environmental conditions common to West Texas. Employees will work around pumps, pipelines, water storage ponds, fuel systems and mobile equipment. Limited local services and amenities may not be available due to the remote nature of the work location. Work schedule is typically six days on and one day off, supporting continuous water transfer operations. Employee will routinely work near open water, transfer ponds, and water storage facilities, requiring strict adherence to water safety procedures and emergency response protocols.
Position Description
Essential Job Functions
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to drive Company vehicles as needed.

Water Transfer Operations
  • Operate water transfer pumps and associated equipment, including manual pump operations as required.
  • Monitor and manage daily water transfer activities to maintain uninterrupted operations.
  • Monitor system performance, water flow rates, and equipment functionality.
  • Monitor supply and target pond levels and maintain established operational targets.
  • Track actual pond fill rates and adjust operating frequency and duration as necessary to meet project requirements.
  • Coordinate field activities through radio communication with project personnel and operators.
System Monitoring and Inspection
  • Conduct daily inspections of water transfer equipment and infrastructure, including:
- Pumps
- Hoses
- Valves
- Connections
- Meters
  • Monitor water transfer routes for operational issues and access concerns.
  • Inspect pipeline routes and water storage areas for debris accumulation and potential disruptions.
  • Remove debris along pipeline routes and at target ponds to maintain access and operational continuity.
Fuel Management
  • Manage fuel inventories for assigned pumping equipment.
  • Perform fuel transfers and refuel pumps following system commissioning.
  • Monitor equipment fuel consumption and coordinate replenishment requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all fuel-handling and environmental procedures.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Support scheduled 30-day pump maintenance programs.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and perform minor repairs and corrective maintenance.
  • Report equipment deficiencies and assist with coordinating major repairs when required.
Data Collection and Reporting
  • Obtain and record daily meter readings.
  • Track and report the following:
- Daily water transfer volumes
- Pond levels
- Pump runtime hours
- Achieved fill rates
- Operational issues and downtime events
  • Maintain accurate daily transfer logs and operational records.
  • Complete required maintenance and inspection documentation.
  • Maintain communication logs when required by project procedures.
Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance
  • Follow all company and client Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and operational briefings.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, and environmental concerns.
  • Maintain HSE compliance during continuous operations and field activities.

  • Ability to safely operate pumps and related transfer equipment.
  • Ability to understand flow rates, volume measurements, and operational reporting.
  • Ability to work safely around open water, storage ponds, and water transfer infrastructure.
  • Swimming ability required due to regular work activities in proximity to water storage facilities and transfer ponds.
    • Ability to read and write in English
    • Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions in English
    • Ability to communicate with employees and various business partners in a professional and courteous manner.
    • Knowledge of technology (iPads, cellphones etc.)
Physical Requirements
• Ability to work extended hours in a remote West Texas field environment south of Pecos, Texas
• Ability to walk long distances along pipeline routes, pump locations and pond facilities
• Ability to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to climb, bend, kneel, and perform manual labor as required
• Ability to safely work independently and respond to operational issues in remote locations
• Ability to work safely in and around water transfer ponds, retention ponds and other water-containing facilities
• Must be capable of swimming and participating in water-related emergency response procedures, if required

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in water transfer, oilfield operations, pump operations, pipeline operations, or industrial field operations preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills.

Position Requirements
Working Conditions: The work environment and working conditions described here are representative of those that are typical of the job and must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic). Occasional field trips necessary to collect information
Working Hours: Normally, a full-time employee will work 40 hours per week, depending on the factors such as weather and schedules. Work schedules and hours may vary depending on specific client locations and projects. In general, applicable work schedules include 6 on 1 off, 5-8's and 4-10's. All labor laws in reference to rest breaks and meal periods will be followed.
