All employees are also considered for an annual raise, commensurate with performance and company commitment.About this position:The Lead Systems Engineer will provide technical and management leadership supporting the Decennial Transformation and Application Modernization (DTAM) initiative for the U.S. Census Bureau.
This role is responsible for overseeing end-to-end systems engineering and integrated solution delivery efforts supporting modernization of large-scale federal data systems.You will guide architecture, engineering execution, governance, and delivery across the system lifecycle while enabling a secure, cloud-smart, data-centric environment aligned to 2030 Census and American Community Survey objectives.Salary Range: $125K - $165K - commensurate with the candidate's skills, experience, location, and qualifications.On a day-to-day basis, you will:Provide technical and management leadership across large-scale systems engineering and modernization initiativesDefine goals, technical plans, and execution strategies aligned with program objectivesDirect systems engineering, architecture, DevSecOps, cloud engineering, testing, and operational support activitiesOversee full lifecycle delivery including requirements, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainmentConduct architecture reviews, design reviews, and technical trade-off analysesManage staffing, technical execution approaches, and financial/resource planning for assigned effortsEnsure requirements traceability, validation, and alignment across integrated systemsLead governance activities including change control, risk management, and readiness assessmentsSupport feasibility studies, proof-of-concepts, pilots, and modernization prototyping effortsInterface with client stakeholders and senior leadership on technical direction, delivery status, and decision-makingSupervise technical teams and ensure alignment with Agile, iterative, incremental, and Waterfall methodologiesRequired Education/Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (advanced degree preferred)15+ years of experience in systems engineering, architecture, application development, or enterprise modernization programsProven experience providing technical and management leadership on large-scale federal IT programsDemonstrated ability to manage cross-functional technical teams and enterprise-level initiativesExperience working across the full system development lifecycle in complex environmentsStrong experience interfacing with clients and senior stakeholders, including technical negotiations and decision-making supportExperience supervising technical staff and managing delivery performance, staffing, and execution planningPreferred Qualifications:Experience with federal data modernization or large-scale statistical/data-driven programs (e.g., Census, analytics platforms, or similar environments)Strong background in cloud architecture and enterprise modernizationExperience leading DevSecOps transformation initiatives at scaleFamiliarity with Agile/ SAFe transformation in federal environmentsExperience supporting AI, advanced analytics, or data science enablement initiatives within enterprise systemsStrong understanding of systems engineering governance frameworks and enterprise architecture standardsExperience supporting high-visibility, mission-critical government programs with complex stakeholder environmentsPlease Note: We maintain an on-camera policy for all virtual company meetings to foster engagement and collaboration.
