Lead Surgical Technologist Certified – Harbour View Medical Center

Job Summary

The Lead Surgical Technologist is an expert-level practitioner who assists with patients, equipment preparation, aseptic technique, and surgical procedures in the operating room. They prepare for surgery by assembling supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Functions as the scrub person during procedures by assembling supplies and equipment.
  • Provides instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure and maintains aseptic technique.
  • Prepares and organizes sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure.
  • Assists with cleaning of the operative or invasive procedure room and necessary instruments.
  • Prepares and performs surgical skin prep and clipping as indicated by the procedure.
  • Checks inventory with Central Processing leaders to ensure the availability of supplies.
  • Assists the Director Perioperative Services or designee in the preparation of the fiscal budget planning and communication.

Education

  • Associates Degree, Vocational Certification, or Military Certificate in Surgical Technology (required)

Licensure/Certification

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
  • Must be certified by one of the following: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA) or Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) (required)
  • Registered Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with the Virginia Board of Medicine (required if currently reside in Virginia)
  • Note: All certifications must be currently active as required by state and organization policies.

Experience

  • Two years of experience as a Surgical Technologist (required)
