The Medical Affairs Professional Society (MAPS) is recruiting a Lead of Strategic Partnerships to oversee and grow MAPS’ Industry Partnership Program across leading Pharmaceutical, MedTech, and Medical Nutrition organizations.
About MAPS
MAPS is a non-profit, member-driven organization dedicated to advancing Medical Affairs as an essential, independent function within healthcare. Through education, standards, and collaboration, MAPS helps elevate the profession and improve outcomes for patients, providers, and society. Founded in 2016, MAPS now serves 18,000 members worldwide, has a team of 18 staff members and 200+ volunteers, and aims to continue expanding our global reach and impact in the Medical Affairs community.
Role Overview
As the new Lead of Strategic Partnerships, you own the MAPS Industry Partnership Program, consisting of 60+ partnerships with leading pharmaceutical, medtech, and medical nutrition organizations. You run the full partner lifecycle, from recruitment and contracting through onboarding, delivery, creative engagement, and renewal. You collaborate with senior leaders from partner organizations, and with the MAPS membership team, volunteers, and leadership to make sure every commitment to every partner is met or exceeded.
Essential Job Duties
Recruit and onboard new partners
• Identify 20+ target organizations each year and the right decision-makers inside them.
• Pitch the value of partnering with MAPS to senior and C-Suite leaders and close new partnerships.
• Tailor each partnership to the partner organization's needs and goals.
• Make sure each partner organization, from their leadership team to their individual employees, knows exactly what they get and how to use it.
What good looks like: You maintain a healthy pipeline and grow the partnership program 10-20% YOY. New partners are active within 30 days of signing.
Drive engagement
• Keep partners highly active in MAPS programs, resources, events, volunteer opportunities, and other initiatives. Spot low engagement early, and act on it.
• Build trusted relationships at multiple levels of each partner organization.
• Develop new, creative partnership offerings.
What good looks like: Partners can name specific value they got from MAPS this year. 75% of their Medical Affairs employees are active members of MAPS within the first year of partnership.
Oversee executive groups
• Manage all components of two executive volunteer groups within the partnership program, each consisting of about 60 people.
• Host at least two meetings per year with each executive group in collaboration with the committee co-chairs. Recruit guest speakers, prepare meeting materials, and ensure high attendance and engagement.
What good looks like: Partners get something out of the executive network and closed meetings they can’t get anywhere else.
Contract, renew, and expand
• Own the renewal calendar and start renewal conversations with at least a 3-month lead time.
• Look for opportunities to expand existing partnerships.
• Prepare proposals, agreements, invoices, and renewals, and move them through to execution.
What good looks like: You maintain an 85% renewal rate.
Track and organize
• Maintain accurate partner records within our association management system (AMS).
• Report on program status, revenue, and partner health to the MAPS team quarterly.
• Build budgets and forecast growth, retention, and churn rates.
What good looks like: Leadership can see the accurate state of the program and partners at any time.
Must-Haves
• You have a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical, medtech, and medical nutrition industries.
• You have demonstrated knowledge of Medical Affairs: its role, structure, and changing priorities within the industry.
• You have an excellent track record of closing new deals.
• You have past project and/or account management experience, with a knack for staying organized and prioritizing across many moving parts.
• You're confident in conversation with C-suite executives.
• You're comfortable with ambiguity and can make your own playbook and solve problems with little oversight.
• You have 8+ years of demonstrated experience in the above areas.
Nice-to-Haves
• You have worked or volunteered at a professional society, association, or non-profit.
• You have experience planning in-person and virtual events.
• You are familiar with third-party Medical Affairs vendors and solutions.
• You thrive on a small team, where everyone pitches in and no one says "that's not my job.”
Compensation and Benefits
• Salary range: $129,000 to $149,000, based on demonstrated experience.
• Competitive, company-supported health, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k); and family leave.
• 3 weeks of Paid Time Off, plus a team-wide respite during the last two weeks of the year.
• No-Meeting Mondays.
Location and Application Instructions
• Location: Preference for candidates based in the Denver area. Team members typically work 2 days in office per week at our headquarters in Genesee, Colorado, and the remainder in their home office.
• Note: Remote work considered for the right candidate. Travel encouraged 1x - 2x / year to our major Annual Conferences to support new member needs and inquiries.
• To apply: Send your resume and a short note on why you and MAPS are a good fit for each other to mgiordano@medicalaffairs.org by Monday, October 19.
