About the role

Crane Worldwide Logistics is investing in technology that helps our customers manage and optimize their parcel shipping. We're looking for a Lead Software Engineer to own the technical direction of this work: bringing together carrier and shipment data, turning it into accurate cost and performance insight, and delivering tools that our teams and customers rely on.

You'll be the senior technical voice on a small, fast-moving team, working closely with business and technology leadership. This is a hands-on role: you'll write much of the code yourself while setting standards and growing the team around you.

What you'll do

• Own the architecture of a TypeScript application running on AWS, including its data model, services, infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD.
• Build and scale data integrations with parcel carriers and customer systems, including APIs, EDI and file-based feeds.
• Develop the logic that models shipping costs accurately across carriers, services and pricing structures.
• Build reporting and analytics that help users understand spend, cost drivers and carrier performance.
• Establish engineering practices for testing, observability, security and data governance appropriate for handling customer financial and shipping data.
• Mentor engineers, run code reviews, and help hire as the team grows.
• Translate business needs into a pragmatic technical roadmap.

What you bring

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years in a lead or senior technical role.
• Deep experience with TypeScript and Node.js in production.
• Strong AWS experience (e.g., Lambda, ECS, S3, RDS/Aurora, SQS/SNS, Step Functions) and infrastructure-as-code (CDK, Terraform or CloudFormation).
• Background in parcel, shipping or logistics software, with a working understanding of how major carriers price and bill: rates, discounts, zones, dimensional weight and accessorials.
• Experience building data-heavy systems: ETL pipelines, normalizing multi-source data, and SQL at scale (PostgreSQL or similar).
• Experience integrating with third-party APIs and file-based feeds, including reconciliation and data quality handling.
• Sound judgment about trade-offs and the ability to explain them to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience at a parcel audit, spend management or shipping technology company, a 3PL, or a carrier.
• Experience building rate calculators or pricing engines.
• Frontend experience with React or similar for data-rich interfaces.
• Experience with a data warehouse or analytics stack (Redshift, Snowflake, Athena, dbt).
• Exposure to AI or LLM features in production.
• Security and compliance experience (e.g., SOC 2).
