Lead Software EngineerWe are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet and exceed business needs. This role encompasses full lifecycle responsibilities including systems analysis, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. The ideal candidate will drive technical excellence, resolve complex problems, and contribute to continuous improvement across platforms and processes.Essential FunctionsCollaborate with customers, architects, and team members throughout the product development lifecycle.Organize and document technical requirements based on business needs.Design and implement scalable software solutions and enhancements.Develop and maintain software applications using modern frameworks and tools.Define and execute functional and non-functional testing strategies, including automation.Ensure ongoing maintenance, performance optimization, and support of applications.Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development teams.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.Plus 6 years of relevant work experience.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.Plus 8 years of relevant work experience.Experience in the railroad or broader transportation industry is a plus.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesFamiliarity with core Internet technologies and modern full stack software engineering practicesProficiency in Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL, (Angular or React), and Node.jsDevelopment experience with Spring/SpringBoot and RESTful APIsExperience with distributed messaging and streaming platforms, including Kafka or RabbitMQGeneral cloud platform experience (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)Skilled in version control systems (e.g., Git)Strong documentation and communication skillsSolid understanding of data structures and design patternsExperience in frontend, backend, and cloud-native developmentFamiliarity with Agile methodologies (SCRUM, SAFe)Understanding of information systems and application architecturesAbility to work under deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to changing environmentsThe salary/hourly range is $103,700.00 – $134,460.00.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary.
