Lead Radiation Therapist

Performance of all aspects of Radiation Therapy within the limits of professional licensure and accreditations and as part of a departmental team. The RTT will maintain and monitor all equipment in the department, including but not limited to the CT Simulator, LINAC, Laser systems, IT systems, patient positioning equipment, and patient care equipment. The RTT will maintain a safe and professional atmosphere with physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, nurses and administrative staff.

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• The Lead RTT will maintain a staffing schedule to ensure daily coverage of therapists on all treatment machines and work directly with the site administrator to maintain regulatory compliance.
• Participates in departmental committees, including but not limited to Peer Review and QA Committees.
• Assist in training new Therapists.
• Act as the liaison between front‑line radiation therapists, division leads, and management on day‑to‑day clinical issues, problems, and patient complaints to the Site Administrator.

The radiation therapist must engage in programs designed to continue their professional education. A valid New York State license in Radiotherapy must be renewed biannually by the New York State Department of Health. The therapist must promote high standards of patient care as stated by the ARRT and maintain membership with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. The original New York State license, registration with the ARRT, and membership in the ASRT must be provided annually upon evaluation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of an approved program in Radiation Therapy.
• NYS License in Radiation Therapy.
• Member of ASRT and ARRT.
• Minimum 3 years of experience.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with Varian Accelerators, CT simulations and ARIA record and verify system.
• Experience performing various treatments to include SBRT, IMRT, HDR, and SRS.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• This position may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting, pulling and/or positioning and transferring of patients.
• Lifts supplies and equipment, moves heavy equipment.
• Subject to Electrical and Radiation Hazards.

As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBSH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

• Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services.
• Complete electronic reference checks with a minimum of three professional references.
• Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen.
• Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
