Lead Medical Lab Scientist – Tiffin Hospital

Job Summary

The Lead Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is responsible for performing a full range of laboratory testing and providing physicians with quality results using a variety of clinical laboratory equipment. The MLS also supports the Technical Specialist in performing tasks that enhance the operations of the laboratory.

Essential Functions

  • Performs the duties of a Medical Lab Scientist.
  • Assists the Technical Specialist with implementation of new procedures and policies.
  • Collaborates with the Technical Specialist in coordinating the proficiency testing program to ensure that all testing is registered, analyzed, and reviewed within established deadlines.
  • Recommends system changes to increase efficiency and accuracy of workflow and ensure daily operational efficiencies.
  • Completes schedules of the department and updates time/schedule as necessary for daily operations.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in one of the following: Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry from a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)‑approved program (required).

Certifications

  • For BSMH, MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligibility through a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required).
  • For RSFH (as of 3/27/25), if registry eligible, must achieve certification within 12 months from hire date.

Experience

  • 2 years of clinical lab experience required.
  • 5 years of clinical lab experience preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to provide quality, error‑free work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner.
