Lead MechanicThe Lead Mechanic is responsible for overseeing daily maintenance and service operations while providing hands-on mechanical leadership. This role leads and mentors technicians, coordinates workflow, and ensures equipment, vehicles, trailers, and fleet assets are maintained safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. The Lead Mechanic serves as the technical leader for the shop, driving quality workmanship, preventive maintenance, operational excellence, and exceptional customer service while supporting business objectives.Shop Leadership & OperationsLead daily maintenance and repair operations to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of workAssign, prioritize, and monitor repair work based on operational priorities and technician skill setsProvide leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to mechanics and service techniciansMonitor department productivity, quality, and service performanceFoster a culture of teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvementEquipment Maintenance & RepairPerform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on equipment, vehicles, trailers, forklifts, and other fleet assetsConduct preventive maintenance, inspections, and safety checks to maximize equipment reliabilityDiagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and fuel system issuesRespond to equipment breakdowns and support timely resolution of operational issuesMonitor equipment performance and recommend repairs, replacements, or upgrades when appropriatePreventive Maintenance & Asset ManagementLead and maintain preventive maintenance programs for company equipment and fleet assetsCoordinate maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtimeMonitor service history and maintenance records to support long-term asset performanceAssist with fleet readiness, equipment inspections, and lifecycle planningQuality & Customer SupportEnsure repairs are completed accurately, safely, and in accordance with company standardsReview completed work orders, repair documentation, and maintenance records for accuracyAssist with preparing repair estimates, service recommendations, and technical guidanceCommunicate professionally with operations teams, vendors, and customers regarding repair status and maintenance needsSupport warranty administration and vendor service programs as applicableInventory & Administrative SupportCoordinate ordering and inventory of parts, tools, shop supplies, and maintenance materialsReview vendor invoices and support inventory accuracy initiativesMaintain organized maintenance records, inspection reports, and work ordersUtilize maintenance management software and business systems to track repairs and equipment performanceSafety & CompliancePromote and maintain a safety-first culture throughout the shopEnsure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and PPE requirementsConduct routine safety inspections and reinforce safe work practicesMaintain clean, organized, and efficient shop, warehouse, and yard work areasInvestigate equipment incidents and implement corrective actions as neededTeam DevelopmentTrain, mentor, and onboard mechanics and service techniciansShare technical knowledge and best practices to improve team performanceSupport employee development through coaching and performance feedbackPartner with management to identify training opportunities and succession planning initiativesPerform additional duties as assignedWhat you'll bring:Advanced mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting expertiseStrong leadership, coaching, and team development skillsExcellent communication and organizational abilitiesStrong problem-solving and decision-making skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentProficiency with maintenance documentation and computerized maintenance systemsCommitment to safety, quality, and customer serviceHigh school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred5+ years of experience in equipment, fleet, industrial, or heavy equipment maintenancePrevious leadership, lead mechanic, or supervisory experience preferredExperience maintaining forklifts, trailers, construction equipment, fleet vehicles, or industrial machineryStrong understanding of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and fuel systemsExperience using diagnostic equipment and computer-assisted troubleshooting systemsProficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance management softwareBilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills are a plusValid driver's license requiredWork is performed in shop, warehouse, yard, and field service environmentsFrequent exposure to machinery, moving equipment, noise, dust, oils, lubricants, and varying weather conditionsAbility to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform physically demanding work throughout the shiftAbility to lift and move parts, tools, and equipment weighing up to 75 poundsFrequent use of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machineryMay require overtime, emergency repairs, or weekend work based on operational needsWhat you'll earn:Health Care BenefitsPaid Time OffBenefits for union-represented roles are determined by the applicable collective bargaining agreement and may differ from standard company benefits.QXO is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
