Lead MechanicThe Lead Mechanic is responsible for overseeing daily maintenance and service operations while providing hands-on mechanical leadership. This role leads and mentors technicians, coordinates workflow, and ensures equipment, vehicles, trailers, and fleet assets are maintained safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. The Lead Mechanic serves as the technical leader for the shop, driving quality workmanship, preventive maintenance, operational excellence, and exceptional customer service while supporting business objectives.Responsibilities include:Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on equipment and vehiclesConduct routine and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performanceInspect equipment for safety, functionality, and compliance with standardsRespond to breakdowns and resolve issues in a timely mannerMaintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activitiesLead, mentor, and support mechanics and service techniciansAssign and prioritize daily work based on operational needsMonitor quality of work, productivity, and adherence to standardsProvide training and guidance to improve team technical skillsCoordinate maintenance schedules and ensure timely completion of work ordersSupport preventive maintenance programs and track equipment performanceOrder and manage parts, tools, and suppliesReview and ensure accuracy of service documentation and work ordersPromote and enforce all safety policies and proceduresMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work environmentConduct safety checks and ensure proper use of PPEReport and address safety concerns, equipment issues, or incidentsIdentify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and optimize processesCollaborate with operations and other departments to support business needsStay current on maintenance practices, tools, and technologiesPerform additional duties as neededQualifications include:Strong mechanical aptitude with advanced troubleshooting and repair skillsAbility to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematicsProven leadership, coaching, and team development skillsStrong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilitiesProficiency with basic computer systems for tracking maintenance and work ordersAbility to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environmentExperience with equipment, vehicle, or industrial maintenanceFamiliarity with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systemsExperience with diagnostic tools and service management systems preferredPrior leadership or supervisory experience in a mechanical or service environment preferredValid driver's licenseAbility to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and working with tools and equipmentAbility to perform work in shop, warehouse, yard, or field environmentsComfortability with exposure to machinery, tools, and varying environmental conditionsFlexibility to work extended hours based on operational needsBenefits include:Health Care Benefits401(k) with employer matchPaid Time OffBenefits for union-represented roles are determined by the applicable collective bargaining agreement and may differ from standard company benefits.QXO is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
