This person will be working on the firmware that operates our in-vehicle telematics unit, including cellular network communications, Bluetooth and CAN bus communications to the car.What You'll Do:Work with the team to set quarterly departmental goals and metrics for the team.Experience with vehicle OBD and CAN stackIdentify and evaluate potential partners for telematics solutions and opportunities that mitigate risk and align with the businessAble to be the technical point of contact for multiple onshore manufacturing partnersExperience with getting FCC, PTCRB and UK/EU RF regulatory certification for connected devicesAbility to architect hardware, firmware and backend technologies to solve business problemsExperience with proposing, designing and developing end-to-end connected devices involving RF, Embedded and connected productsProvide full lifecycle software development, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, production deployment, documentationExperience with technologies such as RFID, Wireless 3G/4G, BluetoothAble to creatively solve business problems using pre-existing technologiesAble to solve both short term and long-term business problemsTechnical experience with automotive grade devices to ensure safety of our productsAble to work with technicians on custom cables and manufacturing of cables and harnessesAbility to manage test engineering for connected devicesAbility to get buy-in on solutions from various stakeholders within ZipcarAble to translate business requirements into technical requirements and vice versaStay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices for connected fleet managementProvide support for existing in-production devicesPerks You'll Get:Access to Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability insuranceEligible to elect other voluntary benefits including: Group Auto Insurance, Group Home Insurance, Pet Insurance, Legal Assistance, Identity Theft Protection, FSA, Accident Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance, and additional life insurance coverages401(k) Retirement Plan with company matched contributionsFull training to learn the business and enhance professional skillsEmployee discounts, including discounted prices on the purchase of Avis/Budget carsAccess to an Employee Assistance Program for services including counseling, financial and legal consultation, referrals for care service and moreWhat We're Looking For:5+ years experience developing low-level firmware including device drivers or board support packages.Proficient in C/C++ programming.Able to read hardware schematics and use test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, communications protocol analyzers) to help debug firmware problems.Prior experience with ARM Cortex-M processors or other microcontrollers.Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.Solid track record of working closely with device manufacturing to deliver on schedule and budgetSome experience leading mechanical designs is preferable but not necessaryThe annual starting salary for this position is between $150,000 - $170,000 annually.
