Please note: No C2C, Subcontracting or Visa Sponsorship of any kind is available for this position. This role serves as a technical leader across Transportation Management Systems (TMS), carrier and third-party logistics (3PL) integrations, freight visibility platforms, EDI and API connectivity, and transportation optimization solutions. The Lead Engineer partners with business stakeholders, product teams, architecture, and engineering groups to deliver scalable, reliable technology solutions while ensuring the stability and continuous improvement of business-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Lead the design, development, integration, and support of enterprise transportation and logistics applications and platforms. Establish technical direction, reusable design patterns, and engineering standards for transportation systems and integrations. Serve as the technical subject matter expert for assigned solutions, facilitating design reviews and guiding complex technical decisions. Mentor engineers through coaching, knowledge sharing, design guidance, code reviews, and hands‑on development, fostering accountability, quality, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
Transportation & Logistics Solutions
Partner with business stakeholders to improve carrier management, routing, shipment planning, freight execution, shipment tracking and visibility, transportation cost management, reverse logistics, and return-to-vendor processes. Support domestic transportation operations spanning distribution centers, retail locations, eCommerce fulfillment, transportation carriers, and third‑party logistics providers. Translate business requirements and operational challenges into scalable, resilient, and maintainable technical solutions. Assess existing transportation technologies and application environments to identify opportunities for modernization, automation, process optimization, and cost reduction.
Engineering Delivery & Execution
Lead cross‑functional technical initiatives from discovery and solution design through development, testing, deployment, and stabilization, maintaining clear milestones and proactively managing risks. Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to define technical roadmaps, refine requirements, prioritize work, manage dependencies, align on outcomes, and communicate delivery risks and commitments. Coordinate execution across internal engineering teams, external vendors, consultants, and geographically distributed delivery partners. Own assigned initiatives from intake through operational handoff, including scope definition, planning, issue resolution, status reporting, escalation, documentation, and deployment readiness. Promote Agile delivery practices, DevOps, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), automated testing, observability, and disciplined release management.
Platform Reliability & Continuous Improvement
Improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of transportation management, freight execution, carrier integrations, shipment visibility, and related systems. Ensure effective monitoring, incident response, root‑cause analysis, corrective action, and prevention of recurring production issues. Develop and maintain technical roadmaps, architecture documentation, and operational support materials to facilitate knowledge transfer, smooth transitions, and ongoing system stability.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience delivering, developing, or supporting enterprise supply chain technology solutions. 5+ years of experience working with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), logistics platforms, carrier systems, or related enterprise applications. Demonstrated experience leading complex technical initiatives and influencing cross‑functional teams without direct reporting authority. Strong understanding of transportation and logistics processes, including shipment planning and execution, carrier connectivity, freight visibility, freight settlement, and reverse logistics. Hands‑on experience integrating enterprise applications using APIs, EDI, middleware, messaging, or cloud‑based integration technologies. Experience working in Agile engineering environments and supporting business‑critical production systems. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain technical issues, solution options, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Ability to establish credibility quickly, take ownership of complex initiatives, and deliver measurable results within a six‑month contract‑to‑hire engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with transportation management or freight visibility platforms such as e2open, Blue Yonder, Manhattan Associates, Oracle Transportation Management, SAP Transportation Management, Shipium, or project44. Knowledge of carrier onboarding, freight rating, parcel operations, claims management, shipment tracking, and transportation cost optimization. Experience with GitHub, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Jira, automated testing frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines. Experience in retail, eCommerce, omnichannel fulfillment, distribution center operations, or large‑scale logistics environments. Experience coordinating multi‑vendor technology ecosystems and geographically distributed engineering teams.
