A leading alternative investment organization is seeking a highly hands-on Lead Engineer to join a lean technology team supporting investment, risk, and middle-office functions.
This is a builder-first opportunity for an engineer who wants significant ownership. You will personally design, develop, deploy, enhance, and support applications tied closely to investment and trading workflows. The environment combines greenfield development with ongoing modernization, enhancements, and production ownership.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop mission-critical investment technology applications using Java and modern application frameworks.
- Build responsive user-facing functionality using React.
- Develop services and supporting functionality using Java and Python.
- Build and enhance applications supporting securities, portfolios, trade flows, risk, and middle-office processes.
- Work across application, database, cloud, and infrastructure layers as needed.
- Develop and manage data integrations involving relational databases and modern data platforms.
- Contribute to AWS infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Use modern AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and software delivery.
Role Requirements
- Strong hands-on software engineering background with recent production coding experience.
- Experience building modern applications with React.
- Prior experience within a hedge fund or buy-side asset management environment.
- Understanding of securities, portfolio, trading, or middle-office workflows.
- Experience working with relational databases.
- Ability to take ownership of applications from design through production.
- Comfortable working directly with business stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work onsite in New York City five days per week.

- AWS and Terraform experience.
- Snowflake experience.
- Spring Boot, MyBatis, or Material UI experience.
