We are seeking a hands-on Lead Electrical Test and EGSE Engineer to own the architecture, design, build, programming, release, and lifecycle support of electrical ground support equipment for our flight-power products, including 1 kW and 6 kW power-processing units. This person will establish reusable test infrastructure for development, qualification, and acceptance while also delivering customer-specific racks and test systems when required.
Find out more about this role by reading the information below, then apply to be considered.
Why This Role Matters:
Right now, our electrical design engineers rebuild test infrastructure every time a board needs bring-up or a product needs integration. Every hour spent wiring a one-off setup is an hour not spent solving a converter problem. Test knowledge lives in people’s heads rather than in controlled, reusable systems.
You are being hired to end that. You will turn development setups and tribal knowledge into safe, configuration-controlled test systems, and you will own the path from engineering-model testing through qualification and acceptance for both customer programs and our own product baselines.
You will own the architecture, design, build, programming, release, and lifecycle support of electrical ground support equipment for our flight power products. That means reusable test platforms for development, qualification, and acceptance, plus customer-deliverable racks when programs require them.
This is a bench job. You will personally design and integrate automated electrical test systems, write or direct the test software, and troubleshoot hardware and software with your hands on the equipment. It is not a test-operator role and it is not a program-coordination role. You will work alongside our power-electronics engineers during bring-up without taking over converter design.
What You Will Own:
- The EGSE technical baseline: requirements, architecture, interfaces, safety concept, configuration, validation, release, and change control.
- Reusable test platforms for the 1 kW and 6 kW PPU families, with controlled variants per product and customer program.
- Customer-deliverable EGSE racks, with acceptance evidence, operating documentation, spares, and support plans.
- Qualification and acceptance strategy: verification matrices, QTPs, ATPs, test-readiness reviews, as-run records, and closure evidence.
- High-voltage and high-power test safety practice: stored-energy control, discharge verification, grounding, fault containment, lockout/tagout, and personnel protection.
What You Will Do:
- Design test racks, panels, fixtures, harnesses, switching and protection circuits, interlocks, signal conditioning, grounding, and emergency-safe states.
- Select and integrate programmable supplies, electronic loads, DAQ, oscilloscopes, switching systems, thermal instrumentation, and representative loads or simulators.
- Write and maintain automated test software in Python, LabVIEW, TestStand, C/C++, or equivalent, with real source control and release discipline.
- Produce the documentation that makes a test system transferable: schematics, wiring and harness drawings, rack layouts, BOMs, assembly instructions, calibration requirements, and operating manuals.
- Plan and support EM, QM, protoflight, and flight-model testing, including thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, EMI/EMC, thermal cycling, burn-in, and functional and performance testing.
- Lead test-readiness reviews and pre-test checkouts. Define hold points, pass/fail criteria, safe abort conditions, and anomaly response.
- Troubleshoot failures spanning EGSE, firmware, interfaces, and flight hardware; preserve evidence and drive root cause with the responsible design engineer.
- Manage outside fabrication for racks and fixtures: build-to-print packages, vendor coordination, FAT and SAT, and incoming acceptance.
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field. Other backgrounds are fine if you can show substantial EGSE or electrical test-system ownership.
- Eight or more years of relevant experience, including personal ownership of at least two complex automated electrical test, ATE, HIL, or EGSE systems from requirements through released operation.
- You have designed, wired, programmed, integrated, and debugged test equipment yourself. Operating equipment or running a test campaign is not the same thing, and we will ask you to show the difference.
- Strong laboratory skills with instrumentation, supplies, loads, DAQ, grounding, shielding, and signal integrity, plus safe practice around high voltage and stored energy.
- Experience producing controlled technical documentation that someone else can actually use: schematics, procedures, validation plans, as-run records, and released configuration records.
- Ability to turn incomplete product and customer requirements into a workable test architecture, make the tradeoff calls, and close decisions with a cross-functional team.
- U.S. Person status as defined by U.S. export-control regulations.
Strongly Preferred:
- Spacecraft, launch vehicle, electric-propulsion, or power-processing EGSE and integration work.
- Testing kW-class power electronics, high-voltage DC systems, converters, inverters, motor drives, or batteries.
- Customer-deliverable racks, automated test stations, load banks, switching matrices, or hardware-in-the-loop systems.
- Qualification and acceptance under aerospace or defense quality systems, including environmental and EMI/EMC campaigns and customer-witnessed testing.
- Startup or new-product-introduction environments with limited support staff and moving requirements.
What Success Looks Like in Year One:
- Development setups are baselined, made safer, and converted into maintainable systems with known configuration and a named owner.
- The 1 kW and 6 kW families have real qualification and acceptance paths on reusable EGSE, not one-off benches.
- Design engineers stop rebuilding test infrastructure. That time shows up in product problems solved.
- Customer test systems ship complete, validated, documented, and supportable.
Personal Traits We Value:
- Ability to balance aerospace rigor with speed, cost, and scalability
- Comfortable pushing back on management, engineers, and technicians
- Influencing teams without conflict
- Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to get to the root cause and implement robust corrective and preventive actions while balancing cost/effort.
- Ability to balance schedules and recognize when delivery practical solutions take priority over rigor and perfection
U.S. Person Requirement:
This position involves access to flight hardware and technical data controlled under U.S. export control laws. Candidates must therefore qualify as a U.S. Person - a U.S. citizen or national, a lawful permanent resident, or an individual granted asylum or refugee status. This requirement stems from federal export regulations, not from a preference regarding citizenship or national origin.
Location and Onsite Expectations:
This role is based in Loveland, Colorado. Limited hybrid flexibility may be available for work that does not require laboratory access, but this is not a remote position. Occasional travel or off-shift support may be required.
If you live in Northern Colorado, that is a feature and not a compromise. Nearly every other space company on the Front Range sits in Boulder, Lafayette, Louisville, or Longmont, which means a daily I-25 commute for anyone north of Berthoud. This job does not. Relocation assistance from out of state can be discussed at the right time during the interview process.
Compensation and Benefits:
Base salary range: $145,000 – $175,000 per year , depending on experience and depth of hands-on EGSE ownership and flight-hardware experience. Eligible for equity.
- Additional compensation*: QSEHRA healthcare reimbursement program through PeopleKeep: We offer the maximum annual allowance to our employees, determined by single or married status:
- For Single status, the current year annual allowance is $6,450.
- For Single with dependents and Married, with or without dependents, the current year annual allowance is $13,100.04.
- Additional Healthcare Stipend: We offer an annual $6,000 stipend to help cover rising healthcare costs, paid out semi-monthly on every paycheck.
- Onsite gym, showers, green space, restaurant/brewery, coffee shop (employee discounts available)
- Colorado Secure Savings program through Vestwell: Employees can save a percentage of every paycheck automatically into a Roth IRA managed by the State of Colorado.
- Unlimited PTO and recognized Holidays - includes parental leave
- Equity Grant Program
*We are currently evaluating healthcare and 401(k) plans to roll out immediately.
Export Control and Background Check:
This position requires eligibility to access equipment and technical data regulated under U.S. export-control requirements, including ITAR-controlled work. A background check is required prior to any offer.
