Lead Electrical Engineer - Power GenerationOverland Park, Kansas, United StatesAbout the JobIn this role, you will have the opportunity to:Function as a Technical Specialist or lead role providing guidance and expertise over Conventional Power Generation Projects and TeamsDevelop electrical drawing deliverables including:One line and three-line diagramsElectrical motor schematics, breaker control schematics and wiring diagramsPower cable sizing and cable schedulesComplex engineering calculations such as: load flow, short circuit, motor starting (ETAP or SKM), Arc flash analysis (ETAP or SKM), protective relay settings, battery and charger sizingDevelop electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and constructionCreate man hour budgets and schedule for projects and proposalsAttend on-site meetings, investigate existing conditions, interface with clients and provide support during constructionExtensively use Microsoft Office business systems such as ProjectWise, electrical engineering software, such as ETAP and Computer Aided Drafting Tools, such as AutoCAD to view and manipulate engineering drawing filesKey ResponsibilitiesEngineering Standards:Continues to learn, remains current and applies independent knowledge and interpretation about departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Customer policies and procedures relative to assigned tasksQuality/Continuous Improvement:Consistently and independently applies knowledge and complies with customer quality program relative to assigned tasksMay be responsible for ensuring compliance with customer quality programProvides guidance and direction to others from the same project and disciplineSupports continuous improvement and change management effortsEngineering Production:Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverablesPerforms complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selectionPrepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principlesManages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirementsPlans and conducts independent evaluation, selection and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteriaReviews lower level engineering work or assignmentsIs responsible for one or more of the following: overseeing collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work; leading smaller production teams; and serving as the responsible charge for a projectProject Coordination:Actively coordinates with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projectsClient Focus:Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projectsCommunicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on less complex projectsMay provide support to business development or pursuit activitiesKnowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology:Recognized as a technical specialist by the division having in-depth knowledge of an engineering process and/or of technical aspects of an industryDesigns a complete project of moderately complex scope within an assigned practice area(s)People Management - (supervision, career development, training, mentoring):Typically assists with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions requiredPreferred QualificationsExperience and expertise in utility scale conventional power generation project designPrevious engineering consulting design experience in LV/MV PowerQuality Assurance / Quality Check (QA/QC) and project lead experienceUnderstand and be able to work within a schedule and manhours budgetFamiliarity with applicable NEC and IEEE/ANSI standardsExperience with electrical equipment, which includes, but is not limited to: MV and LV switchgear, Secondary unit substation Transformer -GSUT, UAT, panel boards, breakers, protective relays, inverter, battery, battery chargers, disconnect switches, surge arrestors, medium voltage cable, low voltage cable, control cable, fiber optic cableWritten CommunicationsDrive For ResultsPriority SettingPlanningDelegationDirecting OthersConflict ManagementInformingListeningDealing with Ambiguity and Building Effective TeamsIntermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering disciplineMinimum QualificationsRequires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 5 years related work experience All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.CertificationsMost positions - depending on the nature of work performed as defined by the division - will typically require incumbents to have professional registration or licensure in their designated home office country, or be in active pursuit* of such registration
