Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist

Duties

The incumbent provides technical, professional, and administrative management. The incumbent is the technical leadership liaison between diagnostic imaging and other services within the medical center. The incumbent must have extensive knowledge of the functions of all aspects of the Diagnostic Imaging Department. The incumbent coordinates imaging service activities with other medical center services and other medical centers. The lead diagnostic technologist prepares room, assures proper supplies are available, receives patient, explains procedures, positions patient, selects appropriate technical factors, prepares any accessory equipment required. As required by procedure or patient's condition, obtains pertinent information from patient or medical records, monitors the patient during examination and notifies radiologist of any significant changes. Makes appropriate exposures for required examinations and assists radiologists or physicians in evaluating results of diagnostic examinations. The lead diagnostic technologist has a responsibility to recognize and exhibit quality diagnostic safety practices; to comply with published and communicated safety procedures; to immediately report observed safety infractions and unsafe working conditions; and to report in a timely manner work related illnesses and injuries to the diagnostic supervisor. The lead diagnostic technologist is responsible for stocking and inventory of all diagnostic supplies and related materials. The lead will ensure and maintain cleanliness of the assigned work areas. The lead must report all problems pertaining to diagnostic technologists to the diagnostics supervisor. The lead is responsible for reporting any equipment failure to diagnostic supervisor. The incumbent will contact Biomedical Engineering to arrange for service. The lead diagnostic technologist adheres to patient safety guidelines as set forth in department and medical center policies and procedures. The lead performs quality assurance actions associated with the VHA, FDA, ACR, and Joint Commission National Guidelines. The lead will work with the Radiation Safety Officer and Diagnostic Supervisor to assure total compliance with radiation safety and guidelines. The lead diagnostic technologist will assist with new policies and update them as new equipment is installed with the diagnostic supervisor. The lead will assist planning of new construction for future diagnostic equipment which includes continuance of protocols. The lead is responsible for application training from vendors and new research protocols. The lead diagnostic technologist will submit appraisal form summaries on each diagnostic technologist and return them to diagnostic supervisor.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
