Lead Automation EngineerThis position will be supporting Canteen, a sector of Compass Group, focused on unattended retail solutions for clients and consumers across the US.

The role will primarily be focused on directing and overseeing automation engineering efforts related to deployments of Canteen’s cloud infrastructure, platform, and applications along with automating common operational activities.The Lead Automation Engineer is responsible for:Managing a small team to ensure consistent delivery of operational excellence through automationGrowth into an increased management role available based on applicant experience and performanceFunctioning as primary liaison between leadership, product teams, and other technical teams across the companyProviding quality advice and ensuring well-thought through recommendations that build maturity in automating common operational activitiesAssisting in developing, scoping, and defining backlog items that guide the operations teamMaintaining and prioritizing the cloud operations backlog to ensure work focuses on maximum value that aligns with the department’s needs and strategyAdhering to industry best practices and established enterprise standardsWorking within a collaborative team, adhering to Agile best practices, documentation, and knowledge sharingDeveloping and maintaining deployment pipelines in Microsoft Azure DevOps and AWS Systems ManagerActing as a subject matter expert that can mentor and guide the development staff in automation practicesDeveloping and maintaining operational automation scripts written in PowerShell (or Linux Bash) and orchestrated with AWS Systems ManagerProviding Access Management to cloud resources and platforms. Demonstrating an understanding of proper user, role, and permission policy accessPerforming Security and Risk Management through proper audit logging, encryption key management, certificate management, and software vulnerability managementPerforming Resource and Platform Management by leveraging automation to provision (or reclaim) cloud resourcesPerforming Event Management through proper monitoring, logging, and alerting. Ensuring solutions are resilient and require minimal support overheadPerforming Change and Release Management process that adhere to corporate practices. Assisting in developing and implementing proper environment strategy for all solutions or projectsPerforming Problem and Incident Management in coordination with product teams to address issues when they arise, perform root case analysis, and implement corrective actions to mitigate future occurrencesPerforming Cost Management analysis on a regular basis to ensure efficiency and identify anomalies with provisioned resourcesQualifications:Bachelor’s degree required. 3+ years of experience in programming, automation, or similar role and the following qualifications:Extensive experience writing and understanding Python, PowerShell, and/or Bash scripting languages (preferably PowerShell)Extensive experience working with CI/CD pipelines (preferably Microsoft Azure DevOps)Experience working with orchestration toolsets (preferably AWS Systems Manager)Experience writing YAML scripts for AWS Cloud Formations (desired, but not required)Working knowledge of ITIL 4.0 Foundations (desired, but not required)Experience working in a formal Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) environmentExperience working in an Agile / Scrum environmentExperience with basic project management skillsThe ability to work independently and in a team environmentCreative problem-solving skillsManaging conflicting prioritiesCommitted and enthusiastic approach to supporting business customersExcellent written and verbal communication skills
