Working with Engineering, Operations Support and individuals in other departments, the Advanced Engineering Technician will support engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electro mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices or specialized test equipment. This may entail performing the following:Interprets basic engineering drawings, diagrams and schematicsConstructs, modifies, debugs, troubleshoots, calibrates, tests and adjusts a variety of tools, equipment and systemsConducts, analyzes and documents statistically based experiments to define process parametersImplements and documents complex solutions for process improvementDesigns and constructs basic tooling and fixtures to accomplish unique tasksOrganizes, analyzes and interprets data to identify cause/effect relationships and recommends resolution/process improvementKey Responsibilities:Interpret complex engineering drawings, diagrams, and schematics to understand system requirements and necessary interfacesPerform complex system-level troubleshooting down to the component level, identifying and resolving technical issues efficientlyExecute testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions using schematics, diagrams, written/verbal instructions, layouts, and defined plansSupport LCS AIT installations, including hookup and disconnection of shipboard equipment and working with Multi-Cable Transits (MCTs)Analyze and troubleshoot electronics and associated interfaces to ensure proper functionality and system integrityLay out, build, calibrate, adjust, install, and maintain equipment, components, devices, and systems in accordance with technical specificationsFabricate simple and complex hardware as required to support engineering and integration activitiesDemonstrate proficiency with industry-standard tools, test equipment, and computer systemsApply solid knowledge of technical theory across relevant disciplines including electrical, software, and manufacturingTravel up to 50% annually to support program needs at various shipyard and customer locations (CONUS)What You'll ExperienceAt General Dynamics Mission Systems, you'll be part of a team that is at the forefront of delivering advanced defense solutions. Our team's current workload for 2026 will require candidates to be available for travel assignments ranging from 2 to 12 weeks at a time in support of mission requirements.
