The mission of the Idaho Industrial Commission is to fairly administer the Idaho Workers' Compensation Law

The Idaho Industrial Commission has an immediate opening for a full-time Law Clerk to work directly for the Worker Representative Commissioner of the Industrial Commission.
A compensation analysis will be done for the selected candidate based on experience. The minimum per hour pay rate for this position is $30 per hour.
SPECIAL NOTIFICATION:
This position is exempt from classified state service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission.
A criminal background check must be completed prior to appointment with the Idaho Industrial Commission.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Performs all facets of legal research and writing related to the administration of the Idaho Worker's Compensation Laws.

  • Reviews and critiques Referee recommendations on Worker's Compensation, Crime Victims Compensation, and Unemployment Insurance Appeal cases.
  • Revises and rewrites decisions as assigned.
  • Participates in weekly review of proposed decisions with the Commissioners.
  • Performs other legal research/drafting as directed by the Commissioners.
  • Assists in managing work flow.
  • Reviews and analyzes legal memoranda prepared by the other law clerks.
  • Completes other projects as directed by the Commissioners.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential
  • Strong legal writing skills. Must possess the ability to recognize, analyze, and articulate treatment of diverse issues arising in Worker's Compensation cases.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing of the Idaho State Bar (A new hire may be granted up to 12 months to fulfill this requirement).
  • Knowledge of modern legal research techniques and principles.
  • Time and case management skills.
  • Computer literacy.
Desirable
  • Some knowledge of the Idaho Workers' Compensation and Unemployment Insurance Laws
  • Some knowledge of the Idaho Crime Victim's Compensation Act
  • Some knowledge of Judicial Rules of Practice and Procedure
  • Awareness of the programs and departments administered by the Idaho Industrial Commission
