Latvian Video-Phone Interpreter

Pay

$18 - $21 per hour. Compensation will not be less than any applicable state or local minimum wage.

Position Overview

The Latvian Video-Phone Interpreter provides real‑time interpretation between Latvian and English speakers, handling video and audio sessions across a range of sectors including healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel, hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court, and 911. The role involves professional and courteous service in a secure, quiet environment from a personal device.

Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to video and audio interpreting sessions with professional, accurate interpretation.
• Participate in online training and maintain current knowledge of industry protocols.
• Deliver interpretation via video and type data on a dedicated device.
• Speak clearly in both languages, avoiding omissions or additions.
• Maintain a professional demeanor and cultural sensitivity during all sessions.
• Remain calm in difficult or emergency situations, such as 911 calls.
• Ensure punctuality and availability during scheduled work hours.
• Follow client instructions and adhere to procedure to protect limited‑English‑speaking persons.
• Avoid interaction with the LEP without client permission.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Latvian and English, with strong cultural competency.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills.
• Ability to remain neutral and objective during sensitive topics.
• Preferred educational or professional background in teaching, translation, or interpretation.
• At least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write both languages (highly preferred).
• Prepared to adapt to new technology and client demands.

Technical Requirements

• Dedicated personal device (desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone) with Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iPadOS, or Android.
• Internet connection: minimum 5Mbps download, 3Mbps upload, ping ≤300ms, jitter ≤30ms.
• Quiet, distraction‑free workspace.
• Compatible headset for prolonged use.

Physical Requirements

• Operate keyboard and mouse with manual dexterity.
• Remain seated with webcam for the majority of the workday.
• Lift up to 26lb.
• Work at a stationary position.
